Stomach meridian of foot yangming

Originating from both sides of nasal bone, stomach meridian of foot-yangming absorbs qi of large intestine meridian of hand-yangming. It goes up both sides of nasal bone to medial side of canthus and connects with bladder meridian of foot-taiyang, forking from here, and it goes into posterior side of eyeball and is distributed over brain. Going down medial side of canthus and forking from lateral side of nasal bone, it is distributed over upper teeth. Going down both sides of angle of mouth and curving Chengjiang acupoint of tip, the meridian on the left intersects that on the right and vice versa, along jowl to Daying acupoint there is a branch crosses corner of jowl, going up preauricula and connecting with forehead along hair line. The trunk goes along throat trachea down to supraclavicular fossa and is divided into two branches at supraclavicular fossa, the medial branch goes into chest and down to disphragmatic muscle and is distributed over stomach and spleen, going Cardia of stomach down to abdomen and coming out of groin.
The lateral branch is divided from supraclavicular fossa, going down medial side of papillae along rectus abdominis to groin and connecting with lower branch of abdomen, Going groin down rectus femoris, patella, anterior to anklebone where is lateral side of tibia and dorsum of foot , it reaches lateral side of the second toe. Another branch of meridian forking from 3 cun below knee walks along lateral side of main meridian and goes down lateral side of midtoe. There is another branch on dorsum of foot which Run obliquely from medial side of Big toe and is associated with spleen meridian of foot-taiyin. There is great collateral forking from stomach distributed lung upwards disphragmatic muscle.
Collateral of stomach meridian of foot-yangming:
Originating from 8 cun above lateral malleolus -the Fenglong acupoint of stomach meridian and forking two branches here. The first branch crosses tibia and is associated with spleen meridian of foot-taiyin of medial aspect of meridians in internal and external relation, composing the gangway for the interflowing of qi of meridians in internal and external relation. The second branch goes along stomach meridian up abdomen and chest to neck and is distributed over throat and calvaria upwards.
Divergent collateral of stomach meridian of foot-yangming:
Forking from stomach meridian at 1/3 anterior aspect of thigh, Divergent collateral  of stomach meridian walks along stomach meridian into abdomen and is distributed over stomach and spleen, going upward and coming through disphragmatic muscle ,it is distributed over heart. Going upward from heart along esophagus and throat, coming out of angle of mouth and going up fossa orbitalis into eyeball, it is associated with stomach meridian, composing connection in parallel of stomach meridian and enforcing the relationship between stomach meridian and spleen, stomach, heart, brain and eye.

The third category is circulation of defense qi

Defense qi and nutrient qi start from the same origination. Flow rate of defense qi is fast and it goes everywhere. Circulation routes of defense qi starts from initial awake after night sleep at the period of the day from 5a.m .to 7a.m. Yang qi ascends from canthus along bladder meridian to head and descends to tip of little toe along neck and back then returns medial angle of eye and runs into small intestine meridian. Descending along small intestine meridian to tip of little finger it returns lateral angle of eye and runs into gallbladder meridian then descends along gallbladder meridian to between the fourth toe and the fifth toe. Defense qi returns lateral angle of eye and runs into triple energizer meridian then descends along triple energizer meridian to tip of ring finger. From there it returns anterior aspect of ear and runs into stomach meridian then descends along stomach meridian to dorsum of foot and scatters five toes.

From there it returns lower mandible and runs into large intestine meridian then descends along large intestine meridian to index finger and thumb. From there it returns back and passes both sides of nose then ascends to medial angle of eye and transfers into bladder meridian. This is one circuit and it is 25 circuits at day. It starts from close of eyes and asleep which is from 5p.m .to 7p.m. defense qi transforms from yang to yin and descends from medial angle of eye along bladder meridian to little toe then runs into kidney meridian. From there it passes sole center along meridian and runs upward then enters into kidney and runs into heart. From there it runs into lung and then runs into liver then into spleen. From spleen it returns kidney and this is one circuit. It runs 25 circuits one night and defense qi transfers from kidney meridian to bladder meridian at the period of the day from 5a.m to 7a.m. it circulates nonstop day and night.

Defense qi runs out of viscera and bowels at day and circulates whole body. Its function is that reinforces defense function of human body to the outside, prevents evil qi invading; moistens muscle, lubricates joint and strengthens kinergety; circulates viscera and bowels at night, nourishes viscera, strengthens biochemistry function of viscera and transforms yang qi to yin qi, supports spirit and saves up essence, if defense qi can not enter into yin at night, people are not easy to sleep.

Uterine collaterals, TCM acupuncture system

Uterine collaterals are collateral on uterus and link with kidney (collaterals which kidney meridian distributes over uterus). Kidney meridian is distributed over tongue, so if there is disease in uterine collaterals, it can not speak. If yang qi moves internally, it will appear hematuria.
Uterine collaterals and uterine vessels, one is associated with kidney and one pertains to heart and connects in the uterus. The two are not one vessel, so we can not lump together. There is no record of heart and Xinbao point in original context of uterine collaterals.
Kidney meridian curves around root of the tongue, so if there is disease in uterine collaterals, it can not speak. Kidney meridian is distributed over lung. Five viscera are crippling wilt due to chronic depressed pulmonary. If more sorrowful, uterine collaterals will expire. If yang qi moves internally, it will be metrorrhagia below heart (kidney meridian runs upward and is distributed over heart) and blood in the urine, so it pertains to disease of kidney meridian.

Reflexology applied to children with behavioral difficulties

I said I would explore some of the newer research. This is a really interesting research study. Gives hope to parents.
Reflexology was applied to children with emotional and behavioral difficulties. The goal was to "calming down the children and young people so that their behaviour becomes less challenging within the classroom and generally, making the mainstream more accessible. The children and young people’s difficulties can vary from bereavement to neglect, sexual, emotional, mental and physical abuse as well as exposure to drugs and alcohol. Some have witnessed and experienced horrific events within their country of origin and are separated from family members." Changing aggressive and anti-social behavior is a key to mainstreaming the children, returning them to a traditional classroom.
"The results from evaluation to date show a reduction in aggression, stress and anxiety and an improvement in focus, concentration, self esteem, listening skills and confidence."

What do you know about skin problems during pregnancy

Pregnancy not only changes a woman’s life, it changes her body too. Almost every part of a woman’s body gets affected by pregnancy in one way or the other, including the skin. There are some lucky women who notice a positive change or an improvement in their skin when they are pregnant. However, despite common pregnancy myths, it is quite rare to see the "mother’s glow" on every woman, as the skin changes are not pleasant for most women. Changes in the levels of hormones can lead to several skin problems during pregnancy, which include:
what do you know about skin problems during pregnancy
Chloasma
Rosacea: This is a skin disease that can be found mostly in adults, where the blood vessels present in the face get enlarged, giving the person a flushed appearance. There are some women who develop this problem during pregnancy. At times, a woman may suffer from Rosacea, but is unaware of it. However, during pregnancy, the condition tends to become more evident and noticeable.
Acne outbreaks: A hormonal imbalance is usually the cause of acne in pregnant women. Acne problems are believed to reduce after the first trimester. However, commercial anti-acne creams, scrubs and skin products should be avoided during pregnancy, as they may contain chemicals that can lead to birth defects in children. Instead home remedies like oatmeal or fruit scrubs can be used to deal with the condition.
Stretch marks: This is probably one of the biggest and most common skin problems during pregnancy. As the skin across your body stretches, to accommodate the growing baby, microscopic tears in the deep skin tissue will leave stretch marks on the skin. While it is not possible to prevent stretch marks, they can be kept to a minimum, by gaining no more than the recommended amount of weight and using Vitamin E oil. Stretch marks are also regarded as a common skin problem after pregnancy, as they do not disappear completely, but can only be lightened gradually.
Spots: Seeing brown spots on the face during pregnancy can be a bit of a shock for many women. This condition is known as Chloasma or more commonly as "The mask of pregnancy". The most common cause, of these spots, is hormonal changes. Fortunately, the spots do get lighter after the baby is born. There are a few products that are believed to help in lightening spots. However, several women who have used such products have stated that they worsen the condition.

Illustration of Meridians and Collaterals in Ancient Times

Records of meridians and collaterals can be found in ancient times. It was first recorded in some writings, and then in the illustrations with development of social productivity. Nei Jing and Nan Jing, the earliest medicine book in China, has concrete description of routine of meridians and collaterals but with no diagrams. At Jin Dynasty, there was systematic description of meridians and collaterals and the acupoints to which the meridians were attached in Jia Yi Jing of Acupuncture; however, there were no diagrams in the book, either. Later on, in Sui Shu Jing Ji Zhi, there were some drawings about the meridians and collaterals such as Chapter One of Fig.s of Twelve people, Part one of Mingtang Five-organs of Huangdi Twelve Meridians, Acupuncture Fig. by Bian Que and A Book of Acupuncture Fig.s. Nevertheless, all of the above four books were lost during the history. Most of the books with Figs. of meridians we can refer to today were written by the authors living in Song Dynasty.
Take Tongren Shuxue Zhen Jiu Tujing (Illustrated Manual of the Bronze Man Showing Acupuncture and Moxibustion Points) by Wang Weiyi for example, the author collected three meridian diagrams and twelve acupoint diagrams. Hua Boren of the Yuan Dynasty wrote the book Shisi Jing Fa Hui (Exposition of the Fourteen Meridians), explaining the distribution of meridians and points. This book drew out some meridians and collaterals connecting the internal organs by way of scenography. In Qing and Ming Dynasty, medical writers drew diagrams of meridians and acupoints on basis of Shisi Jing Fa Hui. The first whole-length Fig. adopted in my book is from Tongren Shuxue Zhen Jiu Tujing published in 1026; the second and the third are from Lei Jing Tu Yi (The Illustrated Appendix to the Systematized Classic) in 1624. The color diagram of The Fourteen Meridians is collected from Xin Zhen Jiu Xue( New Book of Acupuncture ) printed in 1954, which imitates Shisi Jing Fa Hui. The explanation of the diagrams adopts the original composition of Jing Mai of Nei Jing and the annotations by Wang Weiyi and Hua Boren. Nowadays, there are many mistakes about the Fig.s and narration in the book Shisi Jing Fa Hui in our eyes; however, it is the comparatively comprehensive one in history.

The benefits of hydrotherapy for infertility

Hydrotherapy is one natural fertility option that can increase your odds of getting pregnant if you and your partner are experiencing difficulty getting pregnant using more traditional forms of infertiliity treatment, such as fertility drugs and treatment. But what is hydrotherapy and how can it influence some of the causes of infertility?
What is Hydrotherapy?
Hydrotherapy is the therapeutic use of water in order to treat various ailments of the body, both physical and mental. Developed in ancient times, hydrotherapy was popular in ancient Rome, China, Japan and Greece, and was repopularized in the nineteenth century by a Bavarian monk. Hydrotherapy exploits the body's reactions to hot and cold stimuli through the natural pressure of water, which stimulates the nerves. Hydrotherapy includes the use of saunas, baths and showers in order to promote better reproductive health as well as improved overall health.
Hydrotherapy Techniques
This form of alternative fertility therapy includes a variety of components, including baths and showers as well as sitz baths, in which only the buttocks and thighs are soaked in water.
the benefits of hydrotherapy for infertility
The Benefits of Hydrotherapy
There are a variety of health benefits associated with hydrotherapy. Hydrotherapy helps to improve overall physical and mental health because it exploits natural body reactions to hot and cold stimuli. Water stimulates the nerves, which in turn stimulates the immune system. As a result, the production of stress hormones is influenced, as is blood circulation and digestion.
In addition, hydrotherapy helps to reduce stress and anxiety, while helping to alleviate symptoms of depression associated with the cause of infertility. Hydrotherapy also helps to tone the muscles while helping to rejuvenate and calm the lungs, heart, stomach and endocrine system. Because of its calming properties, hydrotherapy can help to lower high blood pressure. It can also help to relieve headaches, migraines and tense muscles. It has also been used to alleviate sleep disorders such as insomnia, as well as in the treatment of arthritis and stomach complications.
Hydrotherapy and Infertility
Hydrotherapy is one of many infertility treatments that can help to treat both male infertility and female infertility problems. This alternative fertility treatment option is so effective because it helps to reduce stress, which has been linked to infertility. Hydrotherapy also increases blood circulation, which stimulates the reproductive organs and therefore helps to improve reproductive health.
Hydrotherapy can also improve your chances of getting pregnant because it helps to boost the immune system, which is important to maintaining overall health, as well as proper reproductive health. There are a variety of spas and wellness centers that offer hydrotherapy treatments. In addition, hydrotherapy treatments can be conducted at home.

The benefits of massage for Arthritis

Although massage therapy cannot cure or stop the progression of arthritis, it can ease the symptoms associated with inflammation and help improve your quality of life. While the cartilage damage of arthritis cannot be reversed, massage is helpful in reducing muscle spasms and decreasing compression associated with the arthritic joint disorder.
How Can Massage Therapy Help Ease Arthritis?
Massage therapy involves working soft body tissues with the hands or with an instrument. When practiced correctly, massage therapy can help improve joint movement, relax tense muscles and stimulate the flow of both blood and nutrients to the skin and tissue underneath. Patients report it feels good and breaks the cycle of stress that often comes with chronic illnesses, such as arthritis.
The benefits of massage include:
Increased circulation
Increased flexibility and mobility
Decreased pain and inflammation
Relief of muscle aches and stiffness
An overall sense of relaxation and wellness
A variety of massage styles can help decrease arthritis pain. Swedish massage therapy is the most relaxing and is used to stimulate blood flow to the skin and relax the muscles. Deep-tissue massage therapy can decrease pain and improve movement in specific muscles and joints. Reflexology involves applying deep pressure to points on the feet that correspond to specific areas of the body. During an acute flare-up of arthritis, reflexology is often recommended because painful joints are not touched directly, and pain and symptoms can be relieved from this distal treatment.
Can Massage Therapy Help Arthritis?
Recent studies have found that massage therapy seems to be helpful in the treatment of osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee, and also effective for chronic hand arthritis.
During a four-week study, patients with chronic hand arthritis who received regular massage therapy experienced less anxiety and pain, along with improved mood and greater grip strength. Overall, the massage therapy group showed greater improvement than did the standard treatment group on all measures.
What Happens During a Massage Therapy Session?
A massage therapy session can last from 15 - 90 minutes and can include a schedule of follow-up visits, depending on the severity of your situation. At your first massage therapy session, the practitioner should ask you about any symptoms you may have (like painful joints) and will also ask questions about your medical history. The practitioner will also discuss your expectations regarding massage therapy.
Swedish Massage Therapy is the most common type of massage therapy in the United States. Swedish massage therapists use long smooth strokes, kneading, and circular movements on superficial layers of muscle using massage lotion or oil. This type of massage can be very gentle and relaxing, which may ease arthritis pain.
Massage should be avoided when joints are especially tender or inflamed, since a treatment can actually worsen the symptoms at such times. Your massage therapist should be informed of your condition and use gentle techniques.

Acupuncture helps supply more energy and increase sex drive

There is little dispute that people feel better after receiving acupuncture. But are they benefiting from the procedure, or just getting a placebo effect?
A study published in August in the journal Arthritis Care and Research found that among 455 patients with painful knee arthritis, acupuncture, in which thin needles are inserted deeply into the skin at specific points on the body, delivered no more relief than a sham treatment.
Actually, patients got significant pain relief from both treatments. And critics contend that the study, performed by Researchers from MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, was poorly designed.
They noted that patients in both groups received treatment with needles and electrical stimulation, but in the sham group, the needles were not inserted as deeply and the stimulation was far shorter in duration.
Rather than proving that acupuncture does not work, the study may suggest that it works even when administered poorly. But he real lesson, acupuncture supporters say, is how difficult it can be to apply Western standards to an ancient healing art. Click to learn Abnormal Uterine Bleeding in TCM.
"People argue that there really are no inactive acupuncture points - pretty much wherever you put a needle in the body is an active point," said Dr. AlexMoroz, an acupuncturist who directs the musculoskeletal rehabilitation program at New York University."There is a body of literature that argues that the whole approach to studying acupuncture doesn't lend itself to the Western reductionist scientific method."
But the study's lead author, Dr. Maria E. Suarez-Almazor, notes that the sham treatment was developed with the help of trained acupuncturists. "We didn't plan a study trying to show that acupuncture didn't work," said Dr. Suarez-Almazor."The results came out with no difference between the groups."
The research and other recent acupuncture studies have fueled speculation that the prick of a needle, whether from real or sham acupuncture, can influence the way the body processes and transmits pain signals.
A 2007 German study of 1,200 back-pain patients showed that about half the patients in both real and sham acupuncture groups had less pain after treatment, compared with only 27 percent of those receiving traditional back care.
Only 15 percent of patients in the acupuncture group required extra pain drugs, compared with 34 percent in the sham group. The group receiving conventional back therapy fared even worse: 59 percent needed extra pain pills.
The researchers speculated that inserting needles may have caused a "super placebo" effect, touching off a series of reactions that changed the way the body experienced pain.
This year, researchers at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan, instead of creating a sham acupuncture treatment, compared acupuncture to the drug Effexor, an antidepressant that has been shown to significantly reduce hot flashes in breast cancer patients. Click to learn Primary Infertility in TCM.
The results were striking. Acupuncture relieved hot flashes just as well as Effexor, with fewer side effects. The acupuncture recipients reported more energy and even an increased sex drive.
"There are some things you can't study the same way we do with drugs," said Dr. Eleanor M. Walker, director of breast radiation oncology at the Henry Ford Health System. "The thing that can't be argued in my study is the duration of the effect. It lasts, and the placebo effect doesn't last once you stop a treatment."
But acupuncture believers say it doesn't really matter whether studies find that the treatment has a strong placebo effect. After all, the goal of what they call integrative medicine, which combines conventional and alternative treatments like acupuncture, is to harness the body's power to heal itself, whether that power is stimulated by a placebo effect or by skillful placement of needles.
"In general in integrative medicine, when patients are involved in their healing process, they have a tendency to do better," said Angela Johnson, a practitioner of Chinese medicine at Rush Children's Hospital in Chicago who is conducting a pilot study of acupuncture to relieve pain in children. "I believe that's part of the reason why they get better."

Health benefits of broccoli, home remedies with broccoli

Broccoli is a cruciferous vegetable that belongs to the cabbage family. Not only is it tasty, it is also packed with a lot of nutrients. It is, therefore, considered a good source of vitamins and minerals.
Some of the nutrients in broccoli are folic acid, beta carotene, calcium, fiber, and vitamin C. Broccoli is a great source of calcium for those who do not consume dairy products. Broccoli is also rich in fiber content. It contains both soluble and insoluble fibers and can help to meet the needs of both types of fibers. Due to the presence of antioxidants, beta carotene, and vitamin C Broccoli helps to reduce the risk of diseases like cancer, heart disease, etc.
Since broccoli is loaded with so many nutrients and good qualities, it helps to combat many health disorders. Brocolli also has cancer fighting properties. Eating broccoli sprouts can prevent stomach cancer, peptic ulcer, and gastritis. Broccoli also helps to protect the skin and thereby reduces the risk of skin cancer.
Broccoli and other cruciferous vegetables are regarded as must-have foods as they can lower the risk of cancer. Broccoli contains two important photochemicals, namely, indoles and isothiocyanates. In addition to an array of nutrients, broccoli can shield our body from disease. Sulforaphane present in broccoli can increase the enzymes present in our body that can hinder cancer causing agents. Photochemicals may act as antioxidants and can boost detoxifying enzymes in the body. By altering the estrogen levels in the body, it reduces the risk of breast cancer as well.

Broccoli
When the pathway of DNA methylation is blocked, the risk of cardiovascular disease, immune function, and neurodegenerative disease are increased. Sulforaphane present in broccoli can stimulate the methylation path to normal gene expression and prevent the cancer cell genesis.
Another important benefit of broccoli is its cholesterol-lowering property. Broccoli cooked by steaming enhances the excretion of bile acid and thereby helps in lowering cholesterol levels. When broccoli has been steamed, the fiber content can bind together with the bile acids effectively. That’s why the cholesterol lowering effect is higher in steamed broccoli rather than raw broccoli.
Broccoli also contains glucoraphanin, gluconasturtiian, and glucobrassicin, which stimulate the body’s detox process. It enhances the process of activation, neutralization, and elimination of unwanted particles.
Broccoli has Vitamin A in the form of beta carotene as well as Vitamin K. This combination helps to keep vitamin D metabolism in balance and thereby helps to treat any deficiency of vitamin D. Broccoli is also rich in magnesium, which is good for the kidneys as it discourages the formation of Kidney Stone.
Broccoli is a rich source of kaempferol, a flavonoid that can lessen the impact of allergy related substances in our body. This flavonoid is the reason for broccoli’s anti-inflammatory benefits and makes it an important ingredient in a hypoallergenic diet. Broccoli is good for a sore throat as it helps to strengthen the immune system and helps to fight any kind of infection. Eating broccoli sprouts daily can also reduce the chances of cataract. Broccoli contains folic acid, which is vital for proper development of fetus without any defects. That’s why broccoli is considered as a boon for pregnant women.
Owing to its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, it is great for asthma patients. The rich vitamin C content helps to ease polyarthritis condition. Easy bruising, which develops due to vitamin C deficiency, can also be overcome by eating broccoli regularly. When eating broccoli, make sure you chew it with all your teeth as it is an excellent tooth whitening agent as well.
Broccoli is one of the effective home remedies for Osteoporosis. Being an excellent source of calcium and vitamin C, regularly adding broccoli in diet is an excellent way to keep osteoporosis at bay. It helps to reduce sugar levels as well.

Acupuncture treatment for obesity and overweight physique

Traditional Chinese medicine treatments, such as acupuncture, offer convenient weight loss options, practitioners claim. Liu Zhihua reports.
Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) practitioners claim shedding pounds without sweating a drop or skipping a meal might not be as easy as popping a pill but could be as simple as enduring a few pinpricks. Some claim acupuncture's health benefits extend beyond leaner bodies, too. Beijing resident Feng Lin says she's sold on the idea. The 24-year-old publishing house editor says she lost 3.5 kg between early July and mid-August after receiving acupuncture at Beijing Massage Hospital's consultation clinic. And she claims she has kept the weight off, despite having to give up the treatments because her job requires her to travel often. Click here to learn acupuncture point Zhongfu (LU1).
"The therapy has reduced the intensity and frequency of hunger fits," she says.
It's very different from her dieting regimens, which were difficult to sustain because she "always had a good appetite" and would quickly regain any weight she had lost when she quit.
"Now, I have healthy eating habits that don't require any effort," Feng says.
And her severe dysmenorrheal (menstrual pain) has faded, too, she says.
TCM treatments for obesity and overweight physiques include acupuncture, catgut embedment, massage and herbal medicines, the special consultation clinic's vice-director Wang Zheng says.
Weight loss treatments employ the same strategy as those that fight illnesses - that is, by helping the body achieve a balanced state that enables all organs to operate in a harmonized way to allow the body to naturally maintain health and beauty, Wang explains. Click here to learn acupuncture point Chize (LU5).
Acupuncture, catgut embedment and massages stimulate certain acupuncture points to mend jingluo, or meridians, which are paths through which the life-energy known as "qixue" is believed to flow. These three treatments are most effective for people with endocrine disorders or excessive weight. Herbal medicines are better for those who have greater and more complicated weight problems, Wang says.
Chen Luquan, with the TCM and acupuncture department of Beijing's Tongren Hospital, puts it this way: "Jingluo function as pipes that deliver energy to every part of the body, and acupuncture points are like valves. When the acupuncture points are stimulated, it is like the valves are readjusted to function more effectively, improving the energy flow."
The philosophy represents the TCM consensus, but practitioners sometimes disagree on acupuncture points' locations. Click here to learn acupuncture point Kongzui (LU6).
But the concept of treating weight issues with TCM is to stimulate those points responsible for metabolism and the endocrine system.
An improved metabolism burns fat, while many diets instead rid the body of water.
If the treatments can adjust appetites, then patients will eat only as much as they should.
But convenience, rather than effectiveness, might be TCM weight treatments' real trump card.
A typical regimen calls for acupuncture and massage three to seven times a week for the first two weeks, and two to four times a week afterward.
Catgut embedment enables stimulation of acupuncture points outside of the clinic and requires fewer visits from patients - two to four a month. The injection of animal intestine strips stimulates the points as the body absorbs them. Click here to learn acupuncture point Lieque (LU7).
"It's not practical for me to diet, because I often dine out with friends and clients," Wang Jianhua, a road construction contractor in Beijing, says.
"But getting catgut injections two or three times a month is easy."
She recently resumed her catgut therapy after a two-year hiatus.
Wang first tried the therapy at Beijing's Tongren Hospital in early 2009, and was thrilled when her weight dropped from 90 kg to 60 kg in six months.
Wang had been overweight since childhood, when she received hormone treatments to treat pneumonia.
"It seldom occurred to me that I needed to lose weight," she recalls. Click here to learn acupuncture point Jingqu (LU8).
She gained more weight in 2004, when she took more hormone treatments for optic neuritis (an inflammation of the optic nerve that affects sight) and suffered from irregular menstruation.
It was then that she decided to lose weight. "It's about health more than appearance," she says.
Her doctor, Chen Luquan, advised her to try catgut therapy, because she was busy with work and traveled often.
"The result was magical," Wang says. "It totally exceeded my expectations."
She menstruated normally and her sleep improved, she says.
Chen says TCM treatments are "green" solutions to weight problems. Click here to learn acupuncture point Taiyuan (LU9).
"They have no side effects and can make people healthier," Chen says.
"But people should not suddenly stop their treatments."
Abruptly halting TCM therapies can disrupt the metabolic normalization that comes with organ function harmonization, Chen says.
"And after treatments end, healthy diets and exercise are important to stay healthy."
